For other Christmas regattas see RESULTS page.
SAILORS AT THE WORLDS
The first analyses of the data collected at the Worlds about the sailors and their equipment show the following:
Age
Possibly because
the championship
was held six months
later than usual, fewer sailors aged 14 or 15 and more aged 13 participated.

Aged 15: 28%
Aged 14: 33%
Aged 13: 26%
Aged<13: 13%

The one 10-year old finished in the top half of the fleet.

Sail Used
There was very little alteration in the percentage of sailors using each make of sail.

 Olimpic: 41%
Toni Tio: 26%
J-Sail: 10%
North: 9%
Others: 14%

The Top Ten
Notable features are:
  • A record three girls in the top ten. And there were seven in the top 21
  • Eight different countries from four continents
  • Weight range from 36 to 55kg. There is no ideal weight to sail an Optimist
