Team Racing: from
Optimists to Youth Olympics The recent multisport "Youth Olympics" in Australia
included team racing as the sailing event. Four of the six British
team which won gold were veterans of the Optimist Grand Optical
European Club Team-Racing Championship.

SAILORS AT THE
WORLDS The first
analyses of the data collected at the Worlds about the sailors and
their equipment show the following:

Age Possibly because the championship was held six
months later than usual, fewer sailors aged 14 or 15 and more
aged 13 participated.
Aged 15: 28% Aged 14: 33% Aged 13: 26% Aged<13: 13%
The one 10-year old finished in
the top half of the fleet.

| Sail Used There was very little alteration in the percentage of sailors
using each make of sail.
Olimpic: 41% Toni Tio: 26% J-Sail: 10% North:
9% Others: 14%

The Top Ten Notable features are:
- A record three girls in the top ten. And there were seven in the top
21
- Eight different countries from four continents
- Weight range from 36 to 55kg. There is no ideal weight to
sail an Optimist
